About Pelvic Floor Chair Treatment in Barrie

You sit fully clothed on a chair that uses HIFEM energy to stimulate deep pelvic floor muscle contractions. The aim is to strengthen the pelvic floor, which supports bladder control.

This treatment complements, rather than replaces, assessment by your doctor or a pelvic health physiotherapist, especially when symptoms are severe or new.

Who it's for

Pelvic Floor Chair Treatment at our Barrie clinic is often a good fit for:

  • Women with stress urinary incontinence: leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising
  • Women with mixed incontinence or postpartum and post-menopausal pelvic floor weakness
  • Men with pelvic floor weakness or urinary leakage, including after prostate surgery, following assessment

Who should not use it

The chair should not be used by people with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device; metal implants in the pelvic, hip or lower-back area (such as a hip replacement, metal plates or a copper IUD — discuss these at consultation); pregnancy or breastfeeding; active cancer in the area; epilepsy; an active pelvic or urinary infection; or fever.

Recent pelvic or abdominal surgery requires clearance before treatment. Heavy menstruation should be discussed for comfort. We review these considerations at your consultation.

Benefits for women

Pelvic floor strengthening may help women with stress or mixed urinary incontinence and postpartum or post-menopausal pelvic floor weakness, with the aim of improving confidence and quality of life. Individual results vary.

In a 2024 study of 35 women with stress or mixed incontinence, six sessions on an electromagnetic chair roughly halved symptom scores and pad use one month later (Tosun et al., Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management). Studies are still small and longer-term research is ongoing.

Benefits for men

Pelvic floor strengthening supports bladder control and may help men with pelvic floor weakness and urinary leakage, including leakage after prostate surgery. Individual results vary.

Research in men, including after prostate surgery, is promising but still limited, and treatment for erectile concerns is still being studied.

What to expect

After consultation, you sit fully clothed on the chair for about 28 minutes. You feel tingling and strong but not painful contractions, and can read or relax during the session. There are no needles or undressing.

We take time with your care. Our founder, Manochehr Samya Kalantari, RN, has more than 30 years in health care. He explains each step, answers your questions and talks through aftercare before you leave.

Results & downtime
