CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing in Barrie
CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing in Barrie creates tiny columns of controlled micro-injury to renew sun-damaged surface skin and remodel collagen. It can improve fine lines, rough texture, uneven tone and scars, with results building over 3–6 months. Individual results vary.

About CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing in Barrie
A fractional CO2 (10,600 nm) laser creates thousands of tiny columns of controlled micro-injury while leaving surrounding skin intact. As the skin heals, it replaces sun-damaged surface cells and remodels collagen.
Results build over 3–6 months as collagen remodels. We assess your skin and discuss realistic expectations and downtime before recommending a plan. Individual results vary.
Who it's for
CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing at our Barrie clinic is often a good fit for:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage and rough texture
- Uneven tone and age or sun spots
- Acne scars and other scars
- Enlarged pores
- Crepey skin, including around the eyes when appropriate
Who may not be suitable or needs extra care
Pregnancy or breastfeeding; isotretinoin (Accutane) use in the past 6–12 months; active infection or cold sores; a history of keloids or poor healing; and recent tanning may mean treatment is unsuitable or needs extra care. An antiviral may be advised if you are prone to cold sores.
Darker skin tones have a higher risk of pigment changes and require a careful, conservative plan. People prone to melasma also need careful assessment first.
Benefits for women
CO2 resurfacing may soften fine lines around the eyes and mouth, improve crepey skin, sun spots, texture and pores, and support overall skin quality and glow. People prone to melasma need careful assessment first. Individual results vary.
Benefits for men
Men's skin is often thicker and oilier, with more sun exposure on the face, ears and balding scalp. CO2 resurfacing can improve acne scarring, deep texture and sun damage. Downtime should be planned around work and shaving. Individual results vary.
Sun damage and skin cancer risk — what the research says
Actinic keratoses are rough, sun-damaged patches that can sometimes develop into skin cancer. Because CO2 resurfacing removes and renews sun-damaged surface skin, research suggests it may help lower the risk of some common sun-related skin cancers.
In a randomized trial of older veterans with heavy sun damage, full-face CO2 laser resurfacing reduced actinic keratoses by about 92% at three months and was associated with fewer new non-melanoma skin cancers than in untreated patients (Hantash et al., JAMA Dermatology, 2006).
A more recent randomized controlled trial using fractional laser resurfacing on aged forearm skin found far fewer actinic keratoses and non-melanoma skin cancers on treated arms than on untreated arms over up to three years (Spandau, Travers et al., Journal of Clinical Investigation, 2021). Researchers believe resurfacing helps restore healthier, more youthful repair signals in ageing skin.
These studies are small and mostly involved older men with significant sun damage, so results may differ for you. CO2 resurfacing is not a substitute for sunscreen, regular skin checks, or seeing your doctor or a dermatologist about any changing or suspicious spot. We do not treat suspected skin cancers — we will refer you. Individual results vary.
What to expect
We begin with a consultation and skin assessment. Topical numbing is applied, and treatment takes roughly 30–60 minutes depending on the area. It feels warm and prickly.
We take time with your care. Our founder, Manochehr Samya Kalantari, RN, has more than 30 years in health care. He explains each step, answers your questions and talks through aftercare before you leave.

FAQ
CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing questions
How much does CO2 laser cost in Barrie?
Pricing is confirmed at your free consultation after skin assessment and discussion of your goals. There is no pressure to book.
How long is the downtime?
Expect redness and swelling for several days, then flaking or peeling for about 5–7 days. Pinkness can last a few weeks. Strict sun protection is needed afterwards. Individual results vary.
Does CO2 laser hurt?
Topical numbing is used. Treatment feels warm and prickly and takes roughly 30–60 minutes depending on the area.
Can CO2 laser reduce my risk of skin cancer?
Research suggests resurfacing may help lower the risk of some common sun-related skin cancers by renewing sun-damaged surface skin. In a randomized trial of older veterans with heavy sun damage, full-face CO2 resurfacing reduced actinic keratoses by about 92% at three months and was associated with fewer new non-melanoma skin cancers (Hantash et al., 2006). A fractional laser trial on aged forearms found far fewer actinic keratoses and non-melanoma skin cancers on treated arms over up to three years (Spandau, Travers et al., 2021). These small studies mostly involved older men with significant sun damage; they do not establish what will happen for you. Resurfacing does not replace sunscreen, regular skin checks or a doctor or dermatologist's assessment of changing or suspicious spots. We do not treat suspected skin cancers — we will refer you. Individual results vary.
Is it safe for men and for darker skin?
Men can be assessed for CO2 resurfacing for acne scars, texture and sun damage. Darker skin tones have a higher risk of pigment changes and need a careful, conservative plan. People prone to melasma also need careful assessment first. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
Often 1–3 sessions, depending on your goals and treatment intensity. Results build over 3–6 months as collagen remodels. Individual results vary.
Will I still look like myself?
The aim is to improve skin quality, fine lines, texture, tone and scars. We discuss your goals and realistic expectations at your consultation rather than promise a particular result. Individual results vary.
